With the petitioned presidency and the unfocused leadershipcurrently in place coupled with the increased poverty stinging the general populous and the ever increasing looting of public resources in the country, the petty tribal and regional cleansing of public servants, and a self confessed vision-less president, does Zambia actually have a President?
This searching question goes to the heart of the issue of whether there is leadership in this country that can steer the nation into the correct direction. Leadership in a president who carries authority enough to marshal both the government and non governmental institutions to chart a progressive path and in turn alleviate poverty and utter mysery experienced by Zambians in a daily basis..
Sadly, there seems to be a vacuum of such leadership. The ray of hope that was to be realized from the state of the nation address was put off without moderation. The so called state of the nation speech was a long winded empty one marred with lack of seriousness, filled with jokes at a serious time and place and certainly lacked substance that could offer hope for the people.
The current state of leadership or the lack of it is dangerous for a nation. A nation such as Zambia endowed with abundant natural resources and a human resource capacity which, if led well, can generate wealth for the nation. Several well meaning Zambians remain spellbound at the current mediocre personnel in leadership, almost paralised. Nothing tangible seems to comes through that offers a ray of light..
Rhetorical talk has become the norm of governance. It has become a talkfest with little or no tagible action in terms of development. The president himself has no ability to walk the talk. How can a drunken Edgar Chagwa Lungu be a champion of curbing the current abuse of alcohol in Zambia?
This current looting clueless leadership, with no basic priorities is not likely to deliver anything positive for Zambia now or in the near future. It is amusing how they seem to think that they have everything under control. These are people that care so little about the people of Zambia starting from the top down and are so full of themselves they drink their own bathwater!
Zambians must be ready for even tougher times if the status quo is maintained.
