Like an irritable pregnant mule, the PF is showing growing intra Party unrest as it fails to cope with its heightened legitimacy question which is refusing to go away, political watchers observe.
Shortly after being declared the s called ‘winner’ in what many have come to realise was a cocked up, cooked up and heavily flawed election, the PF openly mused that it did not need the recognition of the UPND to operate as a Government. However what was obtaining on the ground of realism seemed ironically different from this theory.
The PF became weary and paranoid in being assisted to confirm their legitimacy by institutions that are tasked to do so, by ensuring they tightened their hold on the Judiciary, the Legislature and the Police. That’s hardly a method a confident Government puts into place to show it’s democratic legitimacy.
The Judiciary blatantly and surprisingly began to ambush itself and tripping all over the court benches by contradicting itself several times, and confusing itself in the process. It was a spectacle that confirmed the worst fears of many; that there was an invisible hand controlling the joystick of the courts.
The super bowl show is still on, as the courts continue to lavishly release a well packaged and sold out set of unprecedented adjournments, that are spiralling through the roof. Herein lies the epicentre of a well calculated matrix.
The avalanche of paradoxes didn’t end there.
The legislative head went into a self induced comatose when he unbelievably ‘forgot’ to follow simple rules of raising the flag over a straight foward breach. A man had usurped Mr. speaker’s role to act as a Head of State even when the constitution provided that he steps aside until such a time as the result of the election was properly determined.
A real test of a well organised and respectable democracy would be how any given Government distances itself from interference of law enforcement.
Quite to the contrary, the PF began to use the Police to round up and criminalise hundreds of opposition supporters, among them a former Cabinet Minister who is languishing in a filthy jail over trumped up charges of robbery of a cell phone!
A few days ago, a rogue ruling party Minister who holds a Home Affairs portfolio openly instructed the Police never to allow the opposition UPND to hold meetings to interact with their supporters until they “recognised his Party President as Head of State”. What a U turn from their earlier loud hailed stand, that they didn’t need the recognition of the UPND. Well it seems pretty obvious they do after all.
The PF President has not been completely outpaced in these road shows. He has run rings around the Republic ‘commissioning’ what they term as ‘Developmental projects’ and used the opportunity to boast how he is “the President”. Will a bull boast how he is a bull unless he has no nuts in his scrotum? The PF legitimacy problem won’t go away anytime soon, not until they let the petition be heard . They have demonstrated it and they know it.
