Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba remains the most dangerous person in Zambia right now and if there’s no strong voice that will stop him in his tracks in his criminal pronouncements, this nation maybe headed to a disastrous civil war.
With yesterday’s announcement that he knew who the criminals that were behind the gassing of communities around the country were, it would not have been the first time GBM has made startling and obnoxious manoeuvres to bring the Tongas and the Bembas on the brink of civil war, but thank you to the timely intervention of President Michael Sata at that time, who garbaged Mwamba’s dangerous and crafty mission.
On 3rd September 2012, the Nation was awakened to news that a Tonga ‘Mau Mau’ terrorist group calling itself ‘Tonga Under Oath’ led by a guerilla commander only known as ‘Major General’ H Mweemba had been formed in Mazabuka, Southern Province.
These reports that received unfettered coverage by ZNBC, Richard Sakala’s ‘Daily Nation’ and all State controlled media, followed an earlier interview on 2nd September 2012 at Mazabuka Radio by the then PF Defence Minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba who is now the PF Deputy Mobilization Chairman Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba.
In the interview, Mr Mwamba made unsubstantiated and startling allegations that UPND President Hakainde Hichilema was responsible of causing a wedge between Tongas and Bembas in Zambia and that ‘something’ would soon be revealed about his ‘evil’ activities, which were known by him, and that he would soon report them to Security Forces.
The media reports further revealed that the shadowy group had written a letter to President Micheal Sata demanding that Chirundu and Itezhi Tezhi revert to Southern Province, and demanded that all Bembas immediately leave the Province or risk being butchered by the terrorist group.
In the same letter to the President, the group allegedly made chilling disclosures that they had already killed 3 Bembas and 7 more had been poisoned and would die soon.
In a press release, the Zambia Police Spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela confirmed that the Police had received a report of a letter allegedly originating from Mazabuka and were already investigating the matter.
“Arising from various news articles that have appeared in some daily newspapers, including an item that appeared yesterday on Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) main news at 19.00 hours regarding a group calling itself ‘Tonga under oath’ declaring war on Bembas, and demanding that all people from this ethnic grouping leave Southern Province with immediate effect, the Zambia Police Service working hand in hand with various security wings have instituted investigations into this matter, aimed at bringing to book the author/ authors of the letter”.
Subsequently Southern Province Police Chief Charity Katanga issued an aggressive statement in which she acknowledged the existence of the militia and that the Tongas behind it were already known and that they were quickly ‘closing in’ on them and would make arrests soon.
Meanwhile PF operatives led by Siavonga District Commissioner Brave Mweetwa and PF Southern Province Chairman Brian Hapunda lent credence to the alleged plot by condemning all Tongas for ‘such a senseless and reckless act’ of tribalism.
Though the group is said to have its origins in Mazabuka, the Police however raided the UPND Headquarters in Lusaka apparently looking for evidence to link President Hakainde Hichilema to the guerilla movement.
But the events took a dramatic drawn down when during the swearing in ceremony of Wynter Kabimba as Justice Minister a few weeks later, late President Micheal Sata while looking directly at Defense Minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba who was present at the ceremony, ordred that the whole charade be stopped forthwith, because it was ‘stupid, false and dangerous and accusing innocent people to benefit political ambitions of certain individuals, and that it had the potential to cause chaos in the Nation’.
Mr Sata then dismissed the false assertions that the letter had been authored from Mazabuka but from Lusaka. It appeared the President was short of revealing that it was a PF plot hatched by his Defense Minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba.
The whole episode disappeared as fast as it had made a grand entry? thanks to President Micheal Sata. Following this incident that had almost incited war of two tribes and considering that a smoking gun had pointed at GBM, it was a great surprise when UPND President Hakainde Hichilema appointed Mr Mwamba as his Vice President and running mate. Most people did not believe GBM would shade off the colour of his skin and suddenly love a man he had intended to accuse and harm a few years earlier.
The narratives and methodology of the ‘Tonga under oath’ collarates with the current events. Hire PF Tongas and others and flood the airwaves with hate speech against the Tongas, legitimise the mission by stating that security forces are ‘closing in’ and heighten the tension by claiming that the terrorists are already known, and that it was a political agenda of an opposition politcal party that wants to see Zambia ungovernable so that they seize power. This plot has the hallmark of GBM and unfortunately there’s no Sata to stop it, instead we have a power hungry and insecure individual at the helm, so help you God!.
