3rd Termer MPs Must Go

Editor’s Choice

Irrespective of Party affiliation, all MPs who have served for at least 3 terms must be done & dusted (MPD&D) and must not attempt to contest again in 2021. Their life shelf is burnt out and that card of life over. By now their plans for their constituencies should have been expedited else they are poor and useless planners.

There is absolutely no need to perpetuate the same solutions with the same people and keep hoping to yield different results. If 10 years is enough for a president, 15 years is more than enough for a constituency. Just step aside and move on.

3 terms in a row is long enough for anyone to have dealt with most of the significant issues for that constituency. While 3 terms is enough, 4 terms and beyond is certainly excessive and a sure waste of space. There is no reason why there should only be this one person in an entire constituency purporting to be the perpetual provider of solutions for a people there.

The largest opposition party, the UPND must show leadership in this path. It must not bring back the 3 termer MPs back to the table of aspiring candidates. For Southern Province specifically, where being nominated in the UPND, is almost as good as being  elected, there should not be any holy cows or any justistification whatsoever to repeat this morale dumpening action. This PARTY, ALMOST coming into power must just do the right thing.

The leaders in the party must seriously consider replacing these 3rd termer MPs. Proven that the UPND secretariat may be one of the worst party secretariats among the significant political parties in Zambia, in that it is literally inert and insensitive to the mood on the ground, this once it must act.

Sadly one young lawyer thrown into the depth of the party administration there, in the quest to try and inject energy into the UPND party secretariat, has instead succumbed to the old heros song of pointing at HIS past PERSONAL achievements as a consolation. This is silly and does not help at all.

If UPND is certain of firming the next government, it needs to take bold, sometimes unpopular and emphatic decisions as regards its administration. The historical threads may not just do justice to keep the good will offered by the masses. It must be noted that good will must not be taken for granted without recourse. People may find an alternative.

It s unfortunate that the people who call others tribalist, are hypocrites. They themselves are real tribalist.

Unlike Chiefs from other regions, the Eastern Chiefs have responded to this nonsense in very clear terms. One would have hoped other Chiefs would have also reprimanded their subjects when they spewed nonsense and all the mess we are in now would have been avoided. But do not add your stuff ba Watchdog – did Senior Chief Nzamane refer to the President in his reprimand of Edwin Sakala?
